Life is Easy
Jon is a farmer from northeastern Thailand. He founded the Pun Pun Center for Self-reliance, an organic farm outside Chiang Mai, with his wife Peggy Reents in 2003. Pun Pun doubles as a heart for sustainable living and seed product, aiming to bring indigenous and rare seeds back into employ. Information technology regularly hosts training on simple techniques to live more than sustainably. There is one word that I have e'er wanted to say to everybody in my life. That give-and-take is "Life is easy." It's and then easy and fun. Earlier that, I never remember similar that.
When I was in Bangkok, I felt similar life is very hard, very complicated.
I was born in a poor village on the Northeastern of Thailand. And when I was a child, everything was fun and easy, but when the Idiot box came, many people came to the village, they said, "You are poor, y'all need to follow success for your life. You lot need to go to Bangkok to pursue success in your life."
And then I felt bad, I felt poor. So I needed to go to Bangkok.
Academy Learning
When I went to Bangkok, it was not very fun. You need to acquire, written report a lot and work very hard, so you can get success.
I worked very hard, eight hours per twenty-four hour period at to the lowest degree, simply what I can eat is but a bowl of noodles per meal, or some Tama dish of fried rice or something like that.
And where I stayed was very bad, a pocket-sized room with a lot of people slept. It'south very hot.
I started to question a lot. When I piece of work difficult, why is my life so hard? Information technology must be something incorrect, because I produce a lot of things, but I cannot get enough. And I tried to learn, I tried to report. I tried to report in the academy.
It's very hard to acquire in university, because it's very irksome.
And when I looked at subjects in the academy, in every faculty, nigh of them had destructive knowledge. There's no productive knowledge in academy for me. When I look at something like if yous learn to be an builder or engineer, that ways you ruin more than. The more these people work, the mount volition be destroyed more. And a skillful land in Chao Praya Bowl volition be covered with concrete more and more than. We destroy more.
If we acquire agronomics faculty or something like that, that ways y'all learn how to poison, to toxicate the state, the h2o, and learn to destroy everything. I experience like everything nosotros do is so complicated, and so hard. And everything nosotros just make it hard.
Life is so hard and I felt disappointed.
I started to think virtually, why I take to be here in Bangkok? I thought nearly when I was a child, nobody worked 8 hours per twenty-four hours, everybody worked two hours, two months a year, planting rice one month and harvesting the rice another month. The residual is gratis time, ten months of free fourth dimension. That's why people have so many festivals in Thailand, every month they take festival. Considering they have so much free time.
And so in the daytime, everybody even takes a nap. Fifty-fifty now in Lao people's democratic republic, if anybody become to Laos if you tin, people accept a nap later lunch. And after they wake up, they just gossip, how'south your son-in-law, how's your wife, daughter-in-law. People have a lot of fourth dimension, but because they have a lot of time, they accept time to be with themselves.
And when they have fourth dimension to be with themselves, they take time to understand themselves. When they understand themselves, they tin can encounter what they want in their life. So, many people see that they want happiness, they want love, they want to bask their life.
And so, people see a lot of beauty in their life, so they express that beauty in many means. Some people past carving the handle of their knife, very beautiful, the baskets they are weaving very nicely. Simply, now, nobody does that. Nobody can do something similar that. People apply plastic everywhere.
And so, I experience similar it's something incorrect in there, I cannot live in this way of living. So, I decided to quit Academy, and went back home.
When I went back abode, I started to live like I retrieve, like when I was a kid. I started to work two months a year. I got 4 tons of rice. And the whole family, six people, nosotros eat less than one-half a ton per year. So we can sell some rice.
And then I dug two ponds, 2 fish ponds. We accept fish to eat all year circular. And I started a small garden. Less than half an acre. And I spend xv minutes per twenty-four hour period to take care of the garden. I take more than 30 varieties of vegetables in the garden. So, half dozen people cannot eat all of information technology. We take a surplus to sell in the market. We can make some income in there, also.

So, I experience like, information technology'south easy, why I have to be in Bangkok for vii years, working hard then non take plenty to eat, but here, only two months a year and fifteen minutes per day I can feed half-dozen people. That'south like shooting fish in a barrel.
And before I recall that stupid people like me who never get a skilful class in the school, cannot have a house. Considering people who are cleverer than me, who get number one in the class every twelvemonth, they get a proficient chore, but they demand to work more than 30 years to have a house. Just for me who cannot finish academy, how can I have a house? Hopeless for people who have low education, like me.
But, then I started to do earthly building, it'south so like shooting fish in a barrel. I spend 2 hours per day, from 5 o'clock in the morning time, to vii o'clock in the morning, two hours per day. And in three months, I got a house.
And some other friend who'southward the most clever in the grade, he spent three months to build his house, too. But, he had to exist in debt. He had to pay for his debt for xxx years. Then, compared to him, I take 29 years and 10 months of free time. So, I experience that life is then like shooting fish in a barrel.
I never think I can build a house easy like that. And I keep building a house every yr, at least one house a very year. Now, I accept no money, merely I have many houses.
My problem is tonight which firm I will get to sleep tonight.
So, a house is not a trouble, anybody can build a house. The kids, 13 years former, at the school, they make bricks together, they brand a house. After i calendar month, they take a library. The kids can make a house, a very onetime nun tin build a hut for herself. Many people tin can build a house. So, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.
If you don't believe me, try it. If somebody wants to have a firm.
Clothing
And and so, the next thing is clothing.
I feel like I'g poor, I feel like I'm non handsome. I tried to dress like somebody else, like a picture star. To make myself wait good, look better.
I spent one month to salve money to buy a pair of jeans. When I wear information technology, I plow left, and turn correct, look at the mirror. Every time I expect, I am the same person. The most expensive pant cannot alter my life. I feel similar I'm then crazy, why I have to buy it? Spend ane month to take a pair of pants. It doesn't change me.
